International Day of the Midwife: Supporting and Empowering Midwives

To mark the International Day of the Midwife, the MSF Lebanon Branch Office organized an exchange session and open discussion with midwifery students at Saint Joseph University of Beirut on May 5. Titled “Midwives as Essential Caregivers: Breaking Barriers and Expanding Access to Maternal Health in Lebanon,” the session featured MSF colleagues Wafaa Chreif, Quality Improvement Mobile Implementer Officer, and Midelt Ali, Midwife Activity Manager. On May 7, our colleague Joumana Mansour, MSF’s Nursing Team Supervisor in Lebanon, participated in a ceremony organized by the Midwifery Department of the Faculty of Public Health at the Lebanese University. The event was held under the theme “Midwives in Crisis Situations: Essential Care, a Human Right.” Discussions addressed common misconceptions about the midwifery profession and sought to correct them. MSF colleagues shared their experiences working in the field, particularly in contexts of humanitarian crises. They stressed the importance of supporting a midwife-led care model, given that many women in Lebanon face barriers to accessing affordable maternal healthcare. Their remarks also emphasized recognizing midwifery as a trusted and sustainable care option for women in Lebanon. With rising healthcare needs and limited service availability, midwifery presents a sustainable solution.

MSF Participates in Career Fairs at Lebanese Universities

MSF Participates in Career Fairs at Lebanese Universities

As part of its community outreach activities, the MSF Lebanon Branch Office participated in career fairs at Université La Sagesse and the Arab University of Beirut during the month of April. These fairs provided a valuable opportunity to introduce students to MSF’s history and long-standing presence in Lebanon, as well as the services its clinics provide across the country.

MSF team members also informed students about how to join the organization, outlining the range of available opportunities — from local vacancies to international missions. They showcased the various departments MSF encompasses, including medical, nursing, logistics, media, and many others, and explained the recruitment process and steps involved.

This participation helped raise awareness among students about the diverse career paths MSF offers and emphasized the wide range of specializations that play a vital role in delivering healthcare where it’s needed most.

MSF’s “Witness” Featured at the Sudanese Film Night in Beirut

Two years after the outbreak of war in Sudan, the MSF Lebanon Branch Office took part in the Sudanese Film Night, organized by Nadi Lekol Nas. The event was held on April 15, 2025, at Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture in Beirut and featured the screening of five short Sudanese films, including an animated film produced by MSF titled Witness. This silent short tells the story of a Sudanese girl who falls victim to the ongoing conflict in her country, denouncing the silence surrounding the world’s largest displacement crisis.

AbdelHalim AbdAllah, Communications Advisor for MSF programs in Sudan, presented an overview of the organization’s humanitarian response in the country. He highlighted the areas where MSF teams are present and the services provided to both internally displaced people and refugees in neighbouring camps.

The evening also featured a photography exhibition showcasing images taken by MSF teams in Sudanese refugee camps in Chad.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind Webinar: The Deteriorating Situation of Migrant Workers in Lebanon

Out of Sight, Out of Mind Webinar: The Deteriorating Situation of Migrant Workers in Lebanon

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), in collaboration with Anti Racism Movement (ARM), KAFA, Enga Lenga, INSAAF, the American University of Beirut, and Mesawat, organized a webinar event to raise awareness of the deteriorating situation for migrant workers in Lebanon today and the implications for their health and dignity, both within and outside the Kafala system.

The event, titled “Out of Mind and Out of Sight: The Deteriorating Situation of Migrant Workers in Lebanon Amidst a Profound Socio-Political Crisis,” featured a panel discussion on the health and mental health conditions that MSF witnesses in its consultations with migrant workers, many of which are linked to the harsh living and working conditions created by the Kafala system.

MSF and the participating organizations initiated this event to contribute to the efforts of the Lebanese civil society and migrant-led organizations to highlight the migrant workers status under the Kafala system. The event was an opportunity to share information and raise awareness about the challenges faced by migrant workers in Lebanon, and to discuss potential solutions.

We hope that this event will help to shed light on the plight of migrant workers in Lebanon and to inspire action to improve their situation.

MSF Spotlight Series: Climate Crisis:An Existential Emergency

Major shifts and alterations in our climate’s natural cycles are posing a significant existential threat to nature and its inhabitants. The soon-to-be irreversible repercussions of behavior harmful to the environment have affected and hindered the socio-economic conditions of populations, and as such the work of international humanitarian NGOs.
